Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Orissa met S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister for Urban Development at New Delhi and
expressed his concern over meager allocation of only Rs 181.79 crore for 101 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Orissa.
He requested that it should be enhanced to at least Rs. 1,000 crore.
Chief Minister stated that only two cities in Orissa including Bhubaneswar and Puri have been included under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Integrated Sewerage Project and Conservation of Bindusagar Project have already been taken up in Bhubaneswar. He asked for inclusion of Cuttack also under the JNNURM.
He requested for an early release of the 1st instalment of Central share for the already sanctioned twelve Drinking Water Supply Projects and 2nd instalment for the five ongoing Road Project of Cuttack, Water Bodies Restoration Projects of Cuttack and Berhampur towns and Water Supply Projects of Sambalpur and Koraput towns.
To showcase and promote the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of Orissa at the national level and also to contribute to the unity in diversity of India, Chief Minister requested for allocation of suitable land for establishing an 'Orissa Center' in New Delhi.
The Union Minister agreed to favourably consider the proposals put forward by the Chief Minister.
