Berhampur ( Orissa ): It seems that the Gopalpur beach festival has come of age in the year 2009 after a small beginning that was initiated a decade back. More than one lakh people thronged the beach fest on Sunday and the concluding day had also witnesses much fanfare on Monday.
Folk dances, folk songs, modern dances, modern music and traditional dances attracted thousands of people from Berhampur city and other parts of the state.
Troupes of Kolkota, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Bhubaneswar and folk groups of Sambalpur and other parts of the state, and local groups too participated at the beach fest held along the sea beach of Gopalpur.
Besides, more than 300 stalls including the Gramshree Mela and road side kiosks were the major attraction of the fest where people throng to enjoy the foods and for shopping various handcrafts and handloom products.
The festival continued from 24 to 28 and during these five days and as per a rough estimation more than 3 lakh people had visited the beach fest this year which is considered to be a great success.
