Dilip said that he knew Bijaylaxmi since his childhood and were close to each other. However, it was out of his expectation that one day he would fall in love with this simple girl. They came close after Dilip had then escaped from jail in 1997 and was leading a fugitive's life at Puri where Bijayalaxmi's sister was staying. They became close there and even after his arrest in 1998, Bijaylaxmi started to visit jail more frequently.
