Satakosia to get a new tiger reserve

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : In order to give protection to wild life, the Government has approved eight new forest areas under its flagship programme Project Tiger in the country.

An allocation of Rs. 32.00 crores has been estimated for tiger conservation in new Tiger Reserve areas during the XIth Five Year Plan period.

Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary of Orissa has got one tiger reserve that will cover an area of 988.30 sq km.

Udanti and Sita Nadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Chattisgarh will be the largest among new reserves with 1580 sq.km. area. Anamalai -Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuaries covers area of 1410 sq km area spread over two states, Tamilnadu and Kerala.

The other reserves are Kaziranga National Park of Assam, Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary of chattisgarh, Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Anshi National Park of Karnataka, Sanjay National Park and Sanjay Dubri Wildlife Sanctuary of MP and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamilnadu.
