Bhubaneswar : The two-week long Matric examinations begin today amidst tight security across the State. The exam will end on April 5.

At least 3.20 lakh students from some 7,000 schools would write the examination in regular stream in 1,723 centers while 57,737 students have filled up forms to write the examinations in ex-regular stream.

"We have sent the question sets and answer sheets to all examination centers in advance with adequate security provisions.

The Director-General of Police (DGP), all Superintendents of Police and District Magistrates have been requested to provide adequate security in all the examination centres of their respective districts," said BSE Secretary PK Samal.

The BSE for the first time this year has made arrangements for video recording of examination centers to ensure that the examinees do not adopt unfair means.

At least 19 teams are formed to record the proceedings. "We have made adequate security arrangements at most of the exam centers," a senior police official said.

Meanwhile, transportation of minerals by road from the mines of Keonjhar district to Paradip port stopped on Tuesday in view of the annual matriculation examinations beginning from Wednesday.

The mineral transportation would be resumed from April 6 after completion of examinations, official sources said here.

"The arrangement is being made to ensure that road traffic is not congested in the district during the examination days so as to facilitate the examinees reach their centers on time without any hassle", the sources said.

Some 7,000 to 8,000 trucks carry minerals from different mines in the district to Paradip port everyday and at times the dilapidated roads in the district are jammed by these Lorries bring the traffic to a grinding halt, they said.

Nearly 13,000 students from 405 high schools of Keonjhar district would appear the matriculation examination in as many as 75 centers spread across the district, the state Board of Secondary Education (BSE) sources said.

Most of the examination centers are located along the main thoroughfare of the district, the sources further added.
