Bhubaneswar: Opposition leaders on Friday called on Governor MC Bhandare at Raj Bhawan and appraised him over the constitutional crisis that has been arised due to the non- functioning of the business proceedings of the State Assembly on Thursday.

The delegation was led by the Leader of Opposition JB Patnaik. The Opposition Parties however demanded arrest of Speaker Mohanty.

The delegation also appraised him the political fall out following a complaint of sexual harassment lodged by a few social activists on behalf of the suspended assistant lady marshal Gyatri Panda against the Speaker Maheswar Mohanty.

They also urged the Governor to direct the Director General of Police to instruct the local police to accept the complaint as an FIR.

"Unless Speaker tenders his resignation, we would not allow the House to run smoothly," Patnaik said, adding that Government should order an impartial probe to reveal the truth. "Mohanty has no right to stay as Speaker," said Patnaik, adding that the Opposition sought intervention of the Governor into the matter.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty denied the allegation of a constitutional crisis.

In a press release, Mohanty said the House reassembled at 10.30 am as per the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business Rule. The Chief Marshal announced the presence of Deputy Speaker and later the House commence at 4.10 pm.

The motion moved by the Chief Whip of the Government was accepted and the House was adjourned till Saturday.

"The House will reassemble at 10.30 am on Saturday," Mohanty said, adding the Opposition has an ulterior motive by making statement that constitutional crisis has been cropped up.
