Bhubaneswar (Orissa): A Crime Branch team of Orissa Police has left for New Delhi to quiz the fugitive 29-year Old Catholic Nun, who was allegedly gang raped at K Nuagaon area in riot hit Kandhamal district on August 25.
The team led by Investigating Officer Dilip Kumar Mohanty would quiz the Nun on Monday and record her statement to further speed up the investigation process. The Police have already arrested 10 persons in connection with the rape case.
It may be noted here that the SDJM court in Baliguda, Kandhamal had asked the Nun to present during the Test Identification Parade of the accused on November 19 after she failed to appear before the court on November 10 citing illness.
"Crime Branch has requested the Nun to assist the investigating officials but turning down several request, she finally agreed to assist. So, we have sent a team to interrogate her to find out more clues," a senior Crime Branch officials told this Correspondent.
"We are also contemplating to send another team to New Delhi by Tuesday to speed up the investigation," Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch), Arun Kumar Ray informed from Cuttack.
As Baliguda SDJM Dolagobinda Barik set date line of November 19 for TIP, the move of the Crime Branch assumes greater significance. The SDJM had earlier rejected the appeal of the nun to grant 1-month time for her appearance and allow the TI parade to be conducted outside the state.
But her lawyer appeared before the court and sought 1-month time on the ground that she had been undergoing treatment in New Delhi for the trauma that she had suffered after she was raped during the Orissa bandh day on August 25.
Crime Branch had moved the Baliguda SDJM court seeking a direction to the nun to cooperate with the investigation process and the TI parade to identify the culprits.
However, the TI parade could not be taken up as the nun who had filed the FIR with the Baliguda police station on August 26 last, remained untraced till she appeared before media in New Delhi on October 24 last to demand for a CBI inquiry into the rape case.
