Bhubaneswar:
A person was killed and another was seriously injured when the jawans of Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on them near Kutuniganda village under Adaba police station in Gajapati district during an anti-Maoists combing operation, police said on Monday.
CRPF jawans fired 4 rounds of ammunition, which hit Junesh Rayita and Cornel Bada Rayita, villagers of Kutuniganda. CRPF claimed that Junesh is a Maoist, so they shot at him. Junesh died on the spot and Bada Rayita received serious injuries. Injured Bada Rayita was shifted to MKCG Medical College Hospital and undergoing treatment.
He is out of danger, said sources. But villagers of the area said Junesh is an innocent villager, who had gone to his paddy field in the night. Villagers are adamant over their demand for compensation amount of Rs.10 lakh for the next of kin of the victim
Angry by the shameful deed of Central Para Military forces, the villagers blocked the State Highway at Luhaguli 10 Kilometer from Adaba. Led by Mangala Gamang, local Sarpanch, people squatted on the road demanding compensation.
Collector D V Swamy and SP Safeen K Ahmed have rushed to the spot but they have not able to convince the agitating villagers. Villagers are demanding shifting of CRPF jawans from these areas, where they allege that the para military forces are killing innocent people.
Situation is tense and it will continue till the compensation amount is not paid to the next of the kin of the victim, feel local police personnel.
Adaba Police Station area is falling under newly carved out Ghumusar Division of Maoists and ultras are active in the area led by Azad.
On a tip off CRPF and Police were on an ambush move on the alleged training centre of Maoists, said police sources.
Now villagers are alleging that CRPF is trying to cover up their folly and creating cock and bull story.
Unless the compensation amount is fully paid to the victim's family we will continue to agitate and block the road said Gamang.
