Bhubaneswar ( Orissa) : The Choudwar police have able to arrest three associates of dreaded gangster Sandip Acharjya alias Raja, the prime accused in the sensational Judo coach Biranchi Das murder case.
Recently they all had been released from jail and had engaged themselves in extortion activities in Cuttack city and its adjacent areas.
They were arrested from the fish market of Choudwar, while planning to flee after looting Rs. 5, 200 from the cash box of scrap trader Loknath Sahu of OTM colony.
However, on being informed Inspector Anil Kumar Das and ASI, Niranjan Sethy along with other police men reached the spot and arrested the trio from the fish market area of the industrial city.
Out of the three arrested Bibekananda Sahu alias Chaga of Jobra and Kashinath Biswal alias Biswanath of Thoria Sahi, Mangalabag hails from Cuttack city while Abhaya Sahu alias Chitta hails from Kattikata, Salepur.
During interrogation the police came to know about their association with Raja Acharjya. More than 15 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, tender fixing, illegal arms trading are lying in the names of the arrested criminals, informed the police.
Bibekananada Sahu alias Chaga is a dreaded criminal who was earlier arrested under National Security Act (NSA) and was lodged in Choudwar Jail.
Recently he was released from jail and again got involved in extortion on Saturday and got arrested.
The Choudwar police have filed a case in the name of the three and have forwarded them to court.
