Bhubaneswar ( Orissa) : Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj has reportedly submitted a proposal for revision of IPS cadre to the Home Department for further proceedings, sources manning Police Headquarters in Cuttack, revealed on Tuesday.
DGP Praharaj wants to create another DGP, two additional DG, nine Inspector General and 18 Superintendent of Police posts. Vigilance Director has been included in cadre and the post has been proposed to upgrade to DG rank, sources informed.
Similarly out of the 2 additional DGP newly carved out cadre posts, one goes to Training and other one as Headquarters. The proposal has slashed down the DIG posts. Earlier there were 21 DIG posts, which have been cut to 14.
Accordingly 23 posts of Inspector General suggested in place of existing 14 posts. There are 42 Superintendent of Police posts in cadre for 34 Police districts, resulting sufficient numbers of IPS officers are not available. As a result to facilitate the same, 18 more SP posts in IPS cadre is suggested.
It may be noted here that out of the 159 IPS cadre strength, 62 posts are laying vacant, which has irked DGP Praharaj. DGP has also proposed to rise the figure from 159 to 200.
In 2003, the cadre was reviewed and when the MHA approached Orissa to send its proposal for cadre review during 2006, the then DGP Suchit Das, present chairman of Orissa Public Service Commission did not work out.
