Rayagada (Orissa): In a significant development, Orissa police arrested a Maoist couple from Bisamkatak area in connection with the killing of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati in Kandhamal.

They were acting on specific intelligence inputs in this area, police said. They believed to have been involved in the Nayagarh mayhem.

The ultra couple, who are in their 20s, were believed to have been involved in the attack by Maoists on police armoury and other establishments in Nayagarh on the night of February 14 this year.

Both were interrogated to ascertain whether they had any role in the killing of Saraswati and to gather vital information about naxal activities in the state, police said.
