Bhubaneswar ( Orissa) :Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Leader of Opposition, JB Patnaik has literarily geared up for a Monsoon battle in the State Assembly from Wednesday.
With inputs from the NDA’s top law makers stationed at New Delhi, the ruling combine has decided to adopt an aggressive anti-UPA propaganda and corner the Opposition Congress by raising issues of short supply of fertiliser, meager flood relief grants, the JMM leader Sibu Soren’s demand for formation of greater Jharkhand by including three districts of Orissa, inflation and lack of flood assistance.
The Treasury bench is also preparing to push through as many as eight Bills including Orissa reservation of posts and services for socially backward classes, the law varsity Bill, amendment to pani panchayat Bill, excise related Bill and Vedanta varsity Bill during the session.
On the other hand, the collapse of law and order, inroads made by Maoists, the Opposition members likely to raise politicisation of flood relief and Rs 2 per kg rice scheme.
However, Congress game plan to corner Naveen has received a major set back after NCP leader Bijoy Mohapatra rejected their proposal to field a candidate against Kishor Mohanty, the ruling combine’s Speaker candidate.
When the Leader of the Opposition Patnaik requested the Left Front and NCP to join hand to field a joint opposition sponsored candidate for the post of the Speaker, NCP leader Mahapatra rejected the idea.
The NCP chief, who is also close to left party leaders also impressed upon them not to toe lines with Congress.
Mohanty is all set elected unopposed in the House as Speaker on Tuesday. For a face saving device, the Congress has decided to boycott the election process of the Speaker.
Meanwhile, security measures have been beefed up in and around the Orissa Assembly. As many as 25 platoons of security forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incidents during the session.
The Commissioner of Police, Bijay Kumar Sharma would supervise the entire security arrangements.
