Orissa seeks Rs 250 cr for jail reforms

Bhubaneswar (Orissa): The Orissa Government has sought an allocation of Rs 250 crore from the Centre for the second phase of jail reforms programme.

State Home Secretary Mr TK Mishra said on Wednesday that the first phase allotment of Rs 107 crore had been devoted to strengthening of infrastructure while the second phase would aim to provide better health care facilities, recreational activities and vocational training.

The State Government has also drawn up plans to set up two open air jails one each in the southern and western part of the state.

Besides, a vocational training institute would also be established at Bhubaneswar exclusively for the under trial prisoner, he added.

He also informed that a high security jail either at Cuttack or Bhubaneswar will be set up soon.
