Berhampur (Orissa): The agitation of the students of Khallikote College, one of the oldest colleges in the state has entered its second day on Wednesday, as authorities did not hid to the demands of the students except assuring the students of sending the proposal to higher authorities.
The students of the Khallikote College had started their agitation on Tuesday by closing the college gate and boycotting the classes as their demands were not fulfilled despite the meeting of the students’ leaders with the Chief Minister on Nov 02, after the formation of the new students union of the college.
The CM reportedly has assured the students to look into the matter.
The students' union had submitted a six-point charter of demands that includes permanent appointment of teachers in all the departments of the college, free the OSRTC building from the Reliance and hand over the said building to the College, construction of the over bridge linking the Khallilote College and the Khallikote Junior College, to stop the self-financing courses and opening various courses with the Govt. assistance, to open the Post-Graduate courses in the subjects like Geography, Sociology and Education, and a high level judicial inquiry into the misappropriation of UGC funds.
The student leaders had a meeting with the higher authorities of the college, but they had only assured the students that they had appraised the matter to their higher authorities, alleged the students leaders.
Till the fulfillment of their demands they would agitate, stated Pramod Kumar Sahu, vice-president of the students' union.
