Jharsuguda ( Orissa) In a gruesome incident, a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered at Mohanpur village under Belpahar police station, in Jharsuguda district, police said on Friday.
The strangulated body of the victim, a student of class-1, was found lying beside a pond on with injury marks on her genitals, police added.
The minor girl was last seen by the villagers being taken for a stroll by Surendra Purty, a friend of her father Ramesh Hembram, police said.
Purty, who is suspected to be involved in the crime, returned alone to the village in the night, they said.
Unsuspecting parents as well as the villagers had hardly any inkling about the incident as the girl regularly accompanied Purty, they said. Purty was absconding after the incident and efforts were on to trace him, he added.
