Berhampur (Orissa): People of the Ankuli village located on the outskirts of Berhampur have been blocked the national highway demanding arrest of the culprit involved in murder of a nine-year-old boy Rahul. They stage an agitation demanding CBI inquiry in to the case.

The village people were angry as his body was beheaded and had been recovered separately from the tank. The villagers had demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit. The police had then detained a person on the same night after recovery of the body and after interrogation had released him.

The police registered a case of murder and the investigation is on as they wait for the post mortem report.

The village people on Sunday had convened a meeting where they decided to block the national highway from Monday to demand a crime branch inquiry into the murder case.

On to their decision, hundreds of people came in a procession and blocked the national highway no-217 at the engineering school road on Monday by burning tyres and wooden trunks. The road blockade started in the morning around 10 with all the villagers.

Then the administrative officials and the police officials had reached at the spot to pacify the villagers in order to lift the blockade. But the people were not in a mood to compromise.

The police personnel convince the villagers that, as the post mortem report was awaited they could not proceed in the case

The people said that Rahul along with his friends went missing after he had gone to a nearby house in order to take Jamun , and the villagers alleged the owner of the house as the culprit behind the murder.

They demand immediate arrest of the culprit and a need a crime branch inquiry into the case. If their demands were not meet, they would continue their agitation till an indefinite period, warned the village people.

However, a police official stated that as the people were not giving their witness they could not proceed in the investigation.

When asked, DIG (southern range) RP Koche stated that the post mortem report was being waited and after this they would inquiry into the matter and the culprit would be punished according to the law.
