Balangir hooch tragedy kingpin Budha Seth in police net

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : In a major break through, a joint investigating team of Balangir police and State excise department on Sunday arrested Budha Seth, alleged king pin of Balangir hooch tragedy in which eight persons were killed and dozens others fell ill after consuming spurious liquor.

"We have arrested Seth from an undisclosed location in western districts of Bargarh," Balangiri Superintendent of Police PK Ranpiase told this Correspondent over phone.

The SP said the main accused in hooch tragedy will be brought to districts headquarters for further interrogation.

The SP however ruled out arrest of Seth's associates. "In fact, we have been searching for Seth along and finally, we caught him," Ranpiase said adding that one of the Budha's relative Sukadev Seth has already been arrested in Balangir.

Meanwhile, the primary test found some kind of pesticide in the deceased's body. The liquor is being tested here at State Forensic Science Laboratory.

RDC, Northern Division is probing the case which came few weeks after the Khurda hooch tragedy. The RDC would submit his report in three months.

Sale of liquor in pouches was also banned by the State Government as part of measures to prevent illegal preparation and sale of country-made liquor.
