Mumbai :
Giving a filmy twist in real life to the case relating to Sanjay and Manyata's marital status, the star actor Sanjay Dutt and his friend Manyata told a court that they are not legally married.
Challenging the allegations of bigamy levelled by Manyata's first husband Meraj Rehman, an undertrial, the couple has claimed there was no material to show the validity of their marriage in the eyes of law.
The couple said they have not committed an offence of bigamy as there is no material to prove the validity of their marriage under law.
Dutt and Manyata, in their application, said that in order to prosecute them for bigamous marriage, it is necessary that their marriage must be proved valid.
In an application filed before the Sessions Court on Tuesday challenging the order of issuance of process against the two, Dutt and Manyata have stated that their reported marriage in Goa is a nullity.
Sanjay, the 48 years old star actor had reportedly married to his long time friend and actress Manyata ( 32) on Feb 11 this year.
According to the media reports, he married to her as per the Hindu rituals at a simple ceremony at her residence in suburban Versova.
The matter will be heard before the Sessions Court on April 23.
