In order to provide effective security cover to VIPs and important institutions, the State Government has decided to form a Reserve battalion soon, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Monday.
A formal proposal for the formation of the proposed special security battalion comprising 800 personnel was being sent to the Centre very soon, he informed the State Assembly while responding to queries about security for VIPs and VVIPs.
He also mentioned that there would be no necessity to set up a special squad in the police department.
He further said when a VIP visits a district, the responsibility of providing security falls on the district police "If special security is needed, the State Government takes extra measures".
The State Government has already intimated the Union Ministry of Home how the security was breached during Rahul's visit to the State. Even the State was not informed where Rahul would pay a visit, he added.
