Bhubaneswar (Orissa): The England and Wales Cricket Board on Thursday cancelled their tour of India following serial blasts in country's financial capital killing more than 90 people.
The decision of the Board came after an hour-long close door meeting with the officials of Board of Control for Cricket in India here at Hotel Mayfair Lagoon, highly places sources said.
Hugh Morris, ECB's managing director of England Cricket held discussions with the Secretary of BCCI, N Srinivasan, as well as representatives from the Indian team management at the team hotel in Bhubaneswar early in the morning.
"After the cancellation of the tour, England team will stay in the City Hotel till Friday morning instead flying for Guwahati," Satya Mohanty, a senior Orissa Cricket Association official told This Correspondent.
He further said that England Cricket Board would decide its future course of action. They may be leave for Kolkata on Friday morning from here enroute to England.
"In fact, till now they have not decided, to where, they would fly on Friday morning. They are holding discussions to leave India," Mohanty added.
Meanwhile, Team India players will fly for their respective places this afternoon from the Biju Patnaik Airport. "Players will fly for their respective places instead for the next venue of the Hero-Honda Cup," a senior BCCI official informed.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Orissa Cricket Association and City Police to avail additional security for the players and officials of Team India and England. The BCCI missive came few hours after serial blasts.
The players and officials are staying here since last few days for Barabati One Day International, which, India won convincingly on Wednesday. BCCI in its missive asked OCA and State Police to further beefed up security measures, where the players and officials are staying.
"We have taken all precautionary measures at the Hotel to avoid any kind of incident," Commissioner of Police BK Sharma said.
He also added that adequate security have been made for the Team India players at the Airport, from where, they would fly this afternoon.
