Opinion Poll
Bhubaneswar (Orissa): : By hosting a brainstorming session at party's State Headquarters here on May 19, the rightwing Bharatiya Janata Party discussed the catastrophe in both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls at length and breathe.
Last time, BJP had won 32 MLA and 7 MP seats while this time, it won only 6 MLA seats while the party failed to open its account in Lok Sabha polls. Orissa has 147 MLA and 21 MP seats.
During campaign, BJP desperately made 'betrayal' as major poll issue while BJD chief Naveen Patnaik only concentrated on his Government's good work and refrain from attacking any BJP leader either State or Central.
Naveen successfully won the hearts of voters by citing various schemes of his Government and made an impression that his party is more pro-poor than the BJP and Congress in Orissa.
But, the BJP through its star campaigners like LK Advani, Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Sushama Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Dr Chandan Mitra, only engaged in Naveen bashing.
The BJP seems to have failed in guessing an under current in favour of BJD as well as Naveen. That's perhaps, a major mistake of the saffron party, which led to stunning defeat.
In fact, the BJP had not prepared well to face the polls alone while BJD had made up its mind to snap ties with BJP and fight polls alone three years back.
So, BJD asked a Bangalore based organisation to conduct a study in 147 Assembly and 21 Parliamentary seats. The study had predicated, according to sources, a landslide victory for Naveen.
Basing on the study, BJD's principal strategist Rajya Sabha member, Pyari Mohan Mohapatra convinced Naveen to snap ties with BJP and fight polls alone.
Later on March 7 this year, when Advani's emissary and Editor-in-Chief of The Pioneer, Dr Mitra arrived at Naveen Niwas, he was well aware about the climax. So, the alliance broke out on that particular day forcing the BJP to withdraw support from the BJD led Government.
The results were so stunning that no one expected such fate for the BJP this time. All top leaders of BJP including Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, ,Manmohan Samal, Sameer Dey, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, Rudra Narayan Pany, MA Kharvel Swain, Suresh Pujari, Surama Padhi, Bijay Mohapatra, Braja Kishor Tripathy, Archana Nayak and many more lost polls in a humiliating manner.
This was perhaps worst ever situation faced by any BJP leaders in Orissa. He was the most suitable for the Third Floor of the State Secretariat than any others.
Naveen must live to the expectation of the people of Orissa and he must deliver development during his Hat-trick tenure.
While, the BJP instead losing heart, should focus on ground and the leaders instead sitting in air conditioned rooms here in State Capital, must visit village to regain saffron party's hold in western Orissa in general and entire State in particular.
With Naveen launched his Hat-trick innings in Orissa without the help of BJP for the first time in last 11 years on May 21, every one in the State is waiting how, he is performing. With a team of 20 Ministers including half of them in Cabinet rank, Naveen must bring smile backs in the face of poor and downtrodden and also take steps to stop starvation death in infamous KBK districts.
