New Delhi : The Supreme Court today stayed the Orissa High Court order that stalled construction work on the Rs5,000-crore thermal power project of KVK Nilachal Power Ltd in district Athgarh in Cuttack.
A Bench headed by chief justice KG Balakrishan, while issuing notice to Mahindra Satyam, Maytas Infra Pvt Ltd managing director Teja Raju Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd, KVK Nilachal Power Ltd, India Infrastructure Finance Company, Power Finance Corporation, Orissa government and others, stayed the high court order that restrained KVK Nilachal Power and KVK Energy and Infrastructure Ltd (KVKEIL) from carrying on any activity in the state until further orders.
Challenging the high court order, KVKEIL managing director K Vijaya Kumar, in his appeal before the apex court, said the 1200MW power project allegedly promoted by Maytas Infra and KVKEIL was scheduled to start construction work from November and the high court order had halted all activities.
He said the stay order had come on a PIL filed by one environmental activist Narendra Kumar Mohapatra who alleged funds invested in the project were brought in from Satyam Computers (now Mahindra Satyam) and its disgraced founder Ramalinga Raju.
According to the appeal, the allegations were completely false and Mohapatra had not produced any document to even remotely establish a connection between Kumar and Satyam Computers or Ramalinga Raju.
