Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Hundreds of CPI activists and supporters of POSCO Pratirodha Sangrama Samiti staged a demonstration and protest meeting in front of collectors office here on Thursday opposing state government’s endeavour to start the project in Kujanga areas near Paradeep.
The left party activists put on three points which include the proposed POSCO site in Kujanga areas should shift to some other non fertile area, second Mahanadi river water flowing in Taladanda canal meant for farmer should not be used for industrial purpose, mainly giving to POSCO for its proposed steel project, third no mines lease to POSCO for its integrated steel plant.
Moreover the agitators too vowed not allowing POSCO port in Jatadhari and expressed no to the SEZ status to South Korean steel major POSCO.
Speaking on the occasion left party and PPSS leaders viewed that although union environment ministry has cleared forest lands diversion for the POSCO project but it is required to get clearance from the public those are acquiring these lands since years if their interests put to hurt it would lead a massive unrest and agitation and the both central and state government would be responsible, they warned.
Among others CPI leaders, Dibakar Nayak, Gourahari Nayak, Chhatrapur MLA Adikanda Sethy, Sasisbhusan Swain and PPSS leader Abhya Sahoo took part in the protest meeting as many as 200 activists including women and farmers from project site villages attended in the occasion, later a memorandum was submitted to collector addressed to state chief minister.
