Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Michael Anderson, the head of DFID India has complimented Orissa for making good progress in education, health agriculture and fiscal sector in comparison to other states in the country.

Anderson, who met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with British High Commissioner to India Sir Richard Stagg, told newspersons that Orissa had achieved a growth rate higher than the national average.

He said the DFID had been assisting the state government for the past one decade in the field of health, education, industry, agriculture and fiscal autonomy and the long partnership had started yielding good result.

The single window policy in the investment, resettlement and rehabilitation policy and the industrial policy had made the state a major investment destination in the country.

Anderson said in the health sector, a lot of improvement had taken place with the vaccination rate rising to 62 per cent over the years. He, however, stated that it should further increase to at least 80 per cent.

The DFID India chief said the malnourishment in Orissa was still high with 40 per cent in the age group of below five years.

The DFID he said was ready to provide additional support as requested by the state government to the tune of Rs 50 crore per annum for three years subject to the approval of the government of India.
