Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) organized “ICT Orissa-2009”, a one-day deliberation on the importance of innovation and the need for incorporation of technology in industry to enhance productivity, in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The captains of industries in Orissa deliberated on how innovation can be process oriented and can be embedded with strategy for growth of the organization.
Speaking on the inaugural session, Mr Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Orissa, said, “IT industry is a major contributor to the development of the state through its innovative services.
Incorporation of technology into the government machinery has enabled us service the people better. The adoption of e-procurement has helped us in coordinating with the contractors and farmers better and has also saved them of the inconvenience of having to run from post to pillar for their work.”
“We are also planning to roll out a few more services by January next year so that people do not have to go to government offices at all. They can access everything they need through the Common Services Centers or Jana Seva Kendra set up under the National e-governance plan in their panchayats,” he added.
“Our target is to include more of these facilities into the government to facilitate flow of information and transparency. Very soon, Orissa VAT, transport, electricity will be available in the public domain in the next 45 to 50 days. Besides, there is a huge demand to facilitate delivery of these systems to people living in the rural areas,” he said.
