Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : After unfurling the Tricolour in the face of a Maoist threat, Orissa Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday rushed to New Delhi to meet South Korean President Mr Lee Myung-Bak to discuss the Posco project, official sources said.
Mr Patnaik took a special flight to Delhi and was likely to be back in the state capital in the evening as he has no other programme than meeting Mr Bak, who is the Republic Day chief guest this year.
Mr Bak wanted to meet Mr Patnaik and directly discuss with him the Rs 51,000 crore project, they said.
Before coming to India, had expressed interest to visit Posco India’s proposed plant site near Paradip and participate in the “ribbon cutting” function, however, could not come here as the situation was not conducive for his visit.
The Chief Minister’s principal secretary Mr B K Patnaik is likely to be present during the discussion to be held at the Rastrapati Bhavan this afternoon.
Posco India, which had signed a MoU with the state government on June 22, 2005 to set up a 12 mtpa mega steel plant near Paradip, had failed to implement the poroject due to stiff opposition from the local people, mostly by the CPI-backed Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti.
