Orissa to become a major Biotech, Pharma hub : CM

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik has called upon the universities and professional institutes in the states to fine tune their curriculums in order to cater the requirements of the industry especially the knowledge based sector.

Laying the foundation stone of the Konark Knowledge Park at Andharua Mauza he has emphasized on proper synergies between the teaching institutions and the Knowledge Park for mutual benefit.

He also expressed his Government's intention to develop Andharua Mauza, Bhubaneswar as a major biotech, IT and Pharma hub in Orissa.

Konark Knowledge Park is the first PPP project concieved under a development partnership between the state Govt and Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech international, aleading manufacturer of vaccines and biotherapeutics products in India.

The project aims to boost investments in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals in Orissa.The comnpay will invest 100 crores in the Park.

The state govt through its Industrial Development Corporation ltd.(IDCO) has allocated 64.86 acres of land from which 30 acres has been given in Phase-I and rest 24.86 acres will be allotted in phase-II.

This includes 10acres of land for development of Biotech Incubation Centre through a SPV for development of an Integrated industrial park which would cater the needs of the Researchers, Entrepreneurs and Students of Orissa.

The Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India will fund for the expensive and sophisticated biotech equipment for the incubator which will help in developing this as a Centre of Excellence.
