Additional forces rushed to Koraput

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while reacting to the Maoists onslaught in Koraput, said that additional forces have been rushed to the district after the leftwing ultras killed four civilians and injured 10 SOG Jawans.

“Additional forces have been rushed while situation has been closely monitored,” Patnaik told reporters here.

The Chief Minister described the attack a barbaric and inhuman act of the rebels.

The Chief Minister asked Home Secretary AP Padhi and DGP Manmohan Praharaj to closely monitor the situation as Chasi Mulia Advasi Sangh, a pro-Maoists may try to further aggravate it.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, south-western range, Sanjib Panda told over phone from Sunabeda that all the four victims have been identified.

“They include the owner of the trekker, Uday Taringi, his wife Kausalya Kulusika, driver Totir Mahanandi and Narayanpatna area local Kumudini Sunamudi,” the DIG said.

Condition of injured Jawans stated to be normal, he said.

“The ultras triggered the landmine at Palur between Narayapatna and Laxmipur in Koraput district,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, southwestern range, Panda said. “The victims were on their way to Laxmipur from Narayanpatna in a vehicle, when the landmine went off” DIG Panda informed.

The incident took place three kilometer away from Narayanpatana, the hot bed of anti-Government activities being carried by CMAS.
