Bandh hits normal life in Orissa's Balangir

Balangir (Orissa) : Situations remained tense for the consecutive second day in Orissa's KBK distrcts of Balangir on Sunday with Congress sponsored bandh hit normal life badly.

Vehicular movements were also affected while people remained in house through out the day.

Tensions have been continuing since Saturday after death of Sakti Prasad Mohanty, an engineering student, who died while returning from college driving his motor cycle was knocked down by a police jeep from the behind.

"The situation is under control but tense," said IGP, Northern Range, YB Khurania said. On 11 February last two persons were knocked down leaving them seriously injured by a police van carrying under-trial prisoners. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CRPC have been clamped, the IGP said.

Kalikesh Singh Deo, MP Balangir talked to the police and district administration. During February last violence, people tried to attack the Police Station out of anger, but failed to do so. But this time situation went out of hand and police personnel were seen ducking for cover.

In February last the matter was taken up in Orissa House and angry opposition adjourned the House several times, demanding discussion over the matter and taking action against the erring cops.
