Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) The week-long search operation in Orissa's Paradip Port on Friday ended with a four-member team fished out the dead body of Oleksandr Lyushckenko, the Ukrainian chief engineer of Black Rose, inside a cabin of the ship. The body could be retrieved after the cabin door was cut open, the sources said.
The Mongolian cargo ship which sank off Paradip port 10 days ago was located in the sunken vessel off the Orissa coast, officials said.
Few days back, his daughter, Aleksandera Ilyushchenko has sent a mail to Scuba driver Sabir Bux to locate her father. The letter reads: "I am the daughter of the missing chief engineer (Ukrainian national) of MV Black Rose.
The coast guard and the port's rescue team took measures to save the crew - 26 of the 27 members' members on board were rescued. One crew member, who is my father, is still not found and I hope that he is still alive."
The chief engineer was last seen by one of the crew members inside the ship when others were jumping into the water as the vessel started sinking on September 9. There were 27 crew members in the ship, including the chief engineer.
Though 26 crew members were rescued, Lyushckenko could not be traced and a search operation was initiated by the PPT and Coast Guard.
Meanwhile, a coast guard ship was engaged in surveillance duty around the sunken ship to ward-off any threat of oil spill from the vessel. In the event of an oil spill, the personnel would spray a chemical to neutralise its effects on the sea water. Among the rescued crew members, 17 were from Bangladesh, seven hailed from Ukraine and three from Russia, they said.
