Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : The National Population Register (NPR), a survey of infiltration-hit coastal villages, has come to an abrupt halt in Orissa's Kendrapara district due to alleged bureaucratic red-tape, officials said.
Though head-count operation of settlers has come to an end, the exercise of photography, date entry and finger-print biometric work for expeditious issuance of National multi-purpose ID cards is still a non-starter, they said.
The district administration has already completed enumeration of coastal households. Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), entrusted to carry out photography and related technical job, lagged behind in the NPR project, the officials said.
Altogether 227 enumerators worked steadfastly to finish the enumeration job in 97 villages of coastal tehsils. Each of the households in the earmarked seaside villages has been enlisted, Kendrapara Collector Sisirkanta Panda said.
