Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : With Opposition BJP and Congress alleging large scale corruption in Orissa, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said numerous schemes and projects formulated and funded by both the state and central government besides, other external agencies should not be derailed by corrupt practices.
Addressing the concluding session of the week long vigilance awareness week, Patnaik said the State Vigilance Department had earned the reputation of being one of the best anti-corruption wings in the country and congratulated the department for its constant fight against corruption.
The chief minister said honesty and transparency were twin pillars of democracy. The Right to Information Act, which had come into force, was a great stride forward in achieving these twin goals, he said.
Patnaik said the people should come forward in exposing the corrupt people and their practices.
He said his government had set up new Vigilance Courts at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore,Bolangir and Jeypore while new special courts had been set up at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for speedy trial of disproportionate assets cases involving persons holding public office.
