Berhampur (Orissa) : Berhampur police have detained two engineering students; Rajib Ranjan and Sunny Kumar alias Vicky from Gaya district of Bihar. These two had been detained after a man complained about the theft after his account balance showed only Rs. 13 instead of Rs. 28,013 within a few minutes.

According to the sources, one Laxman Reddy had gone to the SBI ATM located near the town police station in the city. When he entered his secret PIN Code, then the machine became defunct and remained hanged. When he went to another nearby ATM, he found the balance at only Rs. 13 and he then informed the police who had arrested these two engineering students from Bihar.

Their modus operandi was that they in group of 4 to 5 would go to the ATM centers. They would then press one small match stick inside the Key Pad particularly near the Blank switch of the ATM. As a result of which, when a person would enter his secret number, then the machine would remain hanged, meanwhile the group would already have observed the secrete code.

Then, they would take the stick out of the machine after the person goes out of the counter and the machine would be functional again. Entering the secret PIN code, they would take all balance amounts leaving the customer as well as the Bank to ponder how such a theft took place.
