4 killed in gas light explosion in Ganjam

Berhampur ( Orissa ): Four persons of a close nit family including a one and half year old girl were killed in a tragic incident of gas leak from light that triggered an explosion inside a house at Rampa village under K Nuagaon police station in Ganjam district on Monday night.

According to the people and relatives of the deceased, the family of the Badatyas of Badasahi in Rampa village under the K Nuagaon police station near had arranged a Trinath Mela at their house on Monday night. More than 25 people including the family members of both the brothers of Badatyas; Debraj and Tuna and the relatives, keen and kith were present to offer the prayer and were to take the Prasad in that fateful night of Monday.

However, the Trinath Mela that was arranged to get the blessing of the lord turned to be a curse for the family of Badatyas who can not forget the tragic incident.

The family members were preparing to enlighten the surrounding of Mela with the gas light following the power cut in the evening. But, all were ignorant that gas was leaking from the gas light. Within a moment of the lightning of the gas light, fire broke out that triggered an explosion inside the house.

Consequently, more than 12 people including children and women of the Badatya family had sustained burn injuries and had been taken to the nearby hospital. But, afterwards the injured persons had been sifted to the MKCG Medical here in the city on Monday night.

On Monday night, as many as two Chandramaa Badatya, 65 year old grandmother and 18 year old grand daughter Sandhyarani (18-F) had succumbed to the burn injuries.

On Tuesday morning again, the family of the Badatyas were shocked to get another two of their family members including one and half year old little son Samir had succumbed to the injuries. Saraswati (60), the aunt of Debraj and Samir (2), the son of Tuna (brother of Debraj) were declared dead at the MKCG Medical in the city.

Apart from the four deceased; Chandrama, Sandhyarani, Samir and Saraswati, as many as 8 persons were getting treatment at the medical. The kith and kin of the family including mother of Samir were present at the FMT centre of the MKCG Medical for the post mortem.

The kith and kin of the Badatyas and family members were found speechless.
