Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) : The armed cadres of the outlawed CPI(Maoists) on Wednesday kidnapped as many six businessmen from Almunda area under Bandhugaon block of Orissa's leftwing insurgency infected Koraput district, highly placed police sources said here.

The kidnapped persons have been identified as T Nadikesh, Mohan Rao, Yudhistira Patra, Nataraj and S Sashi, police sources said adding that they were kidnapped on Andhra Pradesh border.

The inhospitable terrain of Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon and they are being linked to Parvatipuram of Andhra Pradesh has ensured easy infiltration of Maoists from across the border.

The kidnapping of traders came a day after security forces opened roads to facilitate movement of vehicles in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon that were cut off by Maoists by felling trees for the past two weeks.

With the help of CRPF and Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) personnel, police cleared trees from roads.

The Maoists had virtually taken over the places. All roads that cross through the hills and deep forests were blocked. They also killed nine special security officers and driver of their vehicle through land mine blasts in Narayanpatna.
