Parliakhemunidi ( Orissa ) : As many as 16 Maoists have surrendered in Orissa as they felt misled, betrayed and exploited.

Informing about the ultras' surrender before the police in Gajapati district on Saturday, Mar 13, district Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Arora said that they were from seven villages of Adaba area of the naxal-hit district.

The ultras, who are aged between 18 and 35 years, have been involved in several operations including attacks on forest offices, the SP added.

They told the police that they joined the Maoists as they promised welfare of the tribal community. However, they have decided to lay down their arms as they were being exploited by the seniors.

This comes as boost to the ongoing anti-Naxal operations launched by the government.
