Special drive to restore peace in Orissa

Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) With Malkangiri, Koraput facing the onslaught of the outlawed Maoists rebels and Kandhamal passing through communal violence, SNEHA, a NGO is working overtime in Orissa for peace building and conflict resolution.

NGO Chief Subarna Ghosh told reporter here on Saturday that the organisation has envisaged a two-pronged approach of initiating action programmes for peace building and setting up of training cum resource centre for promoting peace.

She said as a pilot project, at least ten schools in the state capital, both English medium and Oriya medium, and eight habitations in the biggest slum area in Salia sahi had been identified for the purpose.

Ms Ghosh said the peace education workshop for school children had received good response and would be expanded in future to cover more schools across the state.

She said the Centre for Peace and Non-Violence, to be inaugurated on September 21, would facilitate and coordinate peace building activities in the state where regular training programmes, workshops and seminars would be organised for peace and non-violence.

SNEHA would also felicitate each year a veteran social activist who has done remarkable work in the field of peace building in Orissa. This apart, two young social workers would be awarded for their outstanding work in peace building in Orissa every year.
