 State level police football championship inaugurated at Berhampur

Berhampur : The 67th state level police football championship-2008 has been inaugurated at Berhampur stadium here on Monday.

Additional Director General of Police Prakash Mishra has inaugurated the championship, where DIG (southern) RP Koche, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Debadatta Singh, Ganjam SP Nitinjeet Singh and other officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.

The championship is being held under the auspice of Orissa police sports committee.

As many 16 teams including Ganjam, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, PTC Angul, first, second, fifth and sixth battalion, and the Berhampur police team have been participating in the championship.

More than 800 sports persons of the police department were stated to be participating in this state level police football championship.

In the inaugural match Berhampur has won by 3-2 goals against Koraput. Gopal Panda scored two goals while Jitendra Kumar Mohanty had scored one goal for Berhampur police team.

Gopal Panda is leading the team of Berhampur police while Narayan Sethi is being fielded as the Golly of the team.

The championship started from Monday would continue till 31st of this month and the final will be held, in which Director General of Police Gopal Nanda is expected to grace the concluding ceremony.
