Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) : Around 200 women from Satyabhamapur Panchayat under Balianta Police limits on Wednesday ransacked a foreign liquor shop and damaged liquor worth Rs 50,000.

The incident took place at Ranga Bazar near Tankapani Road on the outskirts of the city. Balianta IIC JK Mohapatra said that the liquor shop was opened on June 30 while the locals protested the move and early in the day, hundreds of women ransacked the shop and damaged liquor.

The IIC however ruled out any arrest in connection with the vandalism. "Steps have been taken to restore normalcy there," Mohapatra said. Sources said that the shop owner despite strong opposition from locals had opened the shop with the help of few police and excise officials.

"We could not allow a liquor shop to run here," the agitating women said. They warned dire consequence to the officials, if they allow any further liquor shop in the locality.
