Berhampur ( Orissa ): The Gopalpur beach festival-2009 has started on Thursday evening with much fanfare amidst thousands of people thronged to witness the yearly fest being held at the coastal town of Gopalpur on sea.
As many as four ministers including Damodar Routa, Devi Prasada Mishra, Surjya Narayana Patra and Bikram Keshari Arukh along with several MLAs, Administrative officials and high level police officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.
Prior to the inauguration of the beach fest, the Gramshree Mela was inaugurated at which as many as 120 stalls had been opened. Apart form the Mela, more than 100 stalls had been opened as a part of the beach fest along the sea beach of Gopalpur.
The acclaimed artists of Ganjam had performed the Jodi Sankha (Double Conch) at the inaugural of the beach fest as per the tradition. Besides, other artist and cultural troupes from other parts of the country like kolkata, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh along with the local groups including Sambalpuri, Dal Khai, Chhou and other folk artists are to perform during the beach fest that would continue till December 28.
