New Delhi: A commemorative postage stamp on an Rajesh Pilot, has been released by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Rajesh Pilot, who was inducted in the Union Council of Ministers as Minister of State for Communication with independent charge on June 26, 1991, was hailed as a person having revolutionized the communication scenario in the country.

On the occasion, the Communication Minister Thiru A. Raja said “the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is deeply indebted to him as the telecom revolution which is taking place in India would not have been possible without the far reaching changes he initiated in his time”

He further said that in Rajesh Pilot’s time the mobile telephony took roots in our country and the STD facility received a major boost, which brought the villages on the telecom map of India.

His concern for the rural poor and migrant workers were reflected in the emphasis he put on the rural money order system and expansion of the rural postal network, Raja said.
