Bhubaneswar (Orissa): Protesting against the State Government’s failure to arrest the accused involved in the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, the BJP on Tuesday boycotted the Joint Legislature Party (JLP) meeting.

Talking to medipersons, BJP Legislature Party leader Biswabhusan Harichandan said there had been no development in the arrest of the persons involved in the Swamiji murder case.

“There has been a complete police lapse. Rampant conversion is going on in Kandhamal district, which is mainly responsible for the killing of Swamji,” he said.

He further said Police arrests the innocent people adding that the CRPF’s ongoing atrocities had also hurt the people.

Keeping the sentiments of the people and the leaders, the BJP leaders have decided not to attend the JLP meeting, he said. None of the MLAs also turned up to attend the meeting.

In his reaction, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said he was not informed about all these developments. However, in the absence of the BJP MLAs, the BJD Legislature Party meeting was held.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty said the supplementary Budget would be placed on the first day of the Assembly on Wednesday. “The Government is ready to face the Opposition on any issue,” he said, adding that the Assembly would sit for 27 days.

He further said that the Government was planning to bring a motion on the Centre’s failure to provide flood assistance.

Similarly another motion would be brought on the Centre’s negligence on enhancing the royalty on mineral products. It also plans to bring another motion on the Centre’s apathetic attitude in establishing world class institutions like IIT, AIIMS and Central University at Khargpur.
