Bhubaneswar (Orissa): Government of the Union of Myanmar has donated 788 cartoon containing 9lakh 85 thousand disposable syringes costing about rupees 38 crores to Government of Orissa for post flood health care.
His Excellency Ambassador of Myanmar Mr U Kyi Thein handed over the consignment to Mrs Anu Garg Commissioner-cum-Secretary Health & FW Department in a simple function organized at State Institute of Health & Family Welfare on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Thein said that India-Myanmar have a long history of friendly relationship. It not only shares land & maritime but cultural, religious and ethnic affinities since time immemorial. Both the counties established diplomatic relations on 4th January 1948 after Myanmar gained Independence.
Further Mr Thein added that in May this year when Myanmar was hit by NAGIS, which was the worst calamity in their Country's history, the real friend country India extended its helping hand by sending the very first relief materials for the victims.
Now we have a chance of handing over the small donation of 38 crore worth disposable syringes to supplement the requirements of the Government of Orissa. He was also thankful that the Government received the donation so generously.
Receiving the donation Mrs Anu Garg Commissioner cum Secretary Health & FW said that the State Government has given much priority for the development of Health Sector and provide healthcare to all.
The State experienced severe flood in two phases. But the health care system was maintained and there was no out brake of any kind of epidemic. The Government is doing whatever possible for the Health Sector.
However now the donation of Myanmar would supplement to our requirements, she told. She also thanked the Ambassador for coming all the way to hand over the consignment to Orissa Government.
The First Secretary in Embasy of Myanmar Mr Kyaw Nyunt Lwin also spoke on the occasion.
Mr S.K.Lohani Mission Director welcomed the Guests and Mr Sukadev Sethi Director Health Services proposed a hearty vote of thanks.
