Bhubaneswar (Orissa): The winter session of the Orissa Assembly beginning from Wednesday, is expected to be stormy with main Opposition Congress decided to raise so many failures of the Naveen Patnaik led BJD-BJP Government in the floor of the house.

A supplementary budget will also be placed during the session.

The winter session, which will come to an end on December 31, will see introduction of a Bill for enactment of a new law to protect government doctors from the attacks in the hands of the people.

The ethnic violence in Kandhamal had started exactly three months ago, a day after the killing of Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati and four others on August 23 evening, would figure during the session.

Incidents of violence have stopped, but the situation in Kandhamal continues to remain tense.

According to teh sources in main opposition Congress, the party legislators along with members of other opposition parties would make serious attempts to corner the ruling alliance government for its failure to restore normalcy in Kandhamal.

It may be noted here that the last session of the Assembly ended over the Kandhamal issue on August 29, when communal violence was still spreading in the tribal-dominated district.

The Government, however, had been able to ensure defeat of a no-confidence motion that the Opposition had moved over the alleged failure of the government to maintain law and order in the State.

The other issues that were likely to be taken up by the Opposition to embarrass the government in the House include the recent incident in a stone quarry in Jajpur district in which 15 persons were killed.

Monday’s jailbreak incident in Jharsuguda sub-jail would also be taken up by the Opposition to highlight the poor security arrangements in jails.

Two inmates of the jail were taken away by two youths at gunpoint. The issue pertaining to the killing of a tribal man in Gajapati district by CRPF personnel was also likely to dominate the proceedings.

The violence and police action at Brahmagiri during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the area would also figure in the discussions. Over 50 persons, including 15 policemen were injured in the incident.
