VHP threatens to stall Assembly Session over cow slaughtering and conversion

Bhubaneswar(Orissa): Viswa Hindu Parishad on Thursday announced to stall the coming Orissa Assembly Session if the BJD-BJP State Government led by Naveen Patnaik not strictly implement Orissa Freedom of Religion Act of 1967 and impose a complete ban on cow slaughtering and beef trading in State.

The Saffron Outfit's strong-awarded reaction came two days after Madhu Baba, one of the close aids of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was attacked by a group of minority communities in Kandhamal. Baba's fault was that he had opposed cow slaughtering.

Speaking a Press conference here, VHP State secretary Dr Pramod Acharya, Organising Secretary Tanmaya Mohapatra and victim Madhu Baba jointly demanded judicial probe into illegal cattle business and beef trading in Kandhamal district. "We would force to stall Assembly Session if these activities were not checked," they said.

They demanded immediate dismissal of Kandhamal SP Nikhil Kanodia for his alleged role in patronizing illegal cattle transportation and sex racket in tribal dominated district.

"The SP Kanodia should be sacked from service. Even two days after the incident, the police yet to arrest the key accused," VHP State secretary Dr Acharya said.

He further alleged Congress Rajya Sabha member Radhakant Nayak patronizing communal tension in the district.

VHP State Organising secretary Tanmaya Mohapatra alleged that due to administrative failure, illegal cow slaughtering, cattle transportation has been rising day by in tribal dominated Kandhamal district.

The SP has not taken any steps to stop illegal cow transportation in the district and patronising this trade," the Mohapatra said.

Mohapatra further threatened for a statewide agitation if action not taken against the accused and illegal cattle trader.

Besides, they also demanded complete ban on cow slaughtering and stern action against illegal cattle trader, Z category security for Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, high level probe into various activities of Churches, missionary sponsored NGOs and political leaders like Radhakanta Nayak, John Nayak and Issac Behera.

Meanwhile, Parishad's threat assumes significance from the fact that they had already stormed into the Assembly premises over these issues in past also.
