ASI finds no cracks in Sun Temple in Orissa

Bhubaneswar( Orissa ): Contrary to the allegation of locals, the Union Culture Ministry on Tuesday ruled out cracks Sun Temple of Konark in Orissa.

The Centre said it has not found any cracks. Conservation experts and scientists of the Archaeological Survey of India along with the concerned officers of the State Government have conducted a detailed survey of the Sun Temple and found that no cracks are developing in the monument.

The monument is well conserved and preserved, said conservation experts.

According to the official release, Rs 81,10,790 in 2006-07, Rs 77,83,463 in 2007-08, and Rs 72,10,971 in 2008-09 have been spent on the maintenance of the Sun Temple.

Five rocks had reportedly fallen from the temple's edifice in December last year.

President of Konark Surakshya Samiti Bhagirathi Swain alleged that the ASI is hiding the truth.

He said the monument was declining due to lack of care and maintenance.

Earlier, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had written a to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, blaming ASI for not taking proper measures to conserve the 13th century edifice.
