Berhampur(Orissa): "I am ready for punishment. If Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda proves my involvement in the riot, then I would accept the punishment of the Maoists as well as of the administration", this was the statement of Laxmi Baba of the Mahendragarh Ashram located in the Mahendragiri hills in the Gajapati district.

Laxmi Baba had convened a press meet after the publication of the statement of Maoist Leader Sabyasachi Panda in an Oriya Daily newspaper indicating the involvement of Laxmi Baba in the riot in Kandhamal and Gajapati districts following the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati at Jaleshpeta Ashram in Kandhamal.

Notably, Maoist leader has given a statement before one of the local representatives of an Oriya daily newspaper in which he had stated that they (Maoist) had not issued any threat to Laxmi Baba during the violence following Hindu Seer's killing.

He had said that seers like Laxmi Baba are instigating communal riot and if they would not refrain from communal riot, then they deserve 'death sentence'.

Reacting to such a statement of Maoist leader Sabyasachi, Laxmi Baba at the press meet in the city had stated that he was ready to accept any kind of punishment, if Sabyasachi proves his involvement in the riot, adding "I never involve myself in any kind of riot or violence.

Moreover, I had protected the people of minority community and church in the Gajapati district during the violence following the killing Laxmanananda Saraswati".

However, the people who had instigated were neither Hindu nor Christian, it was the outsiders with the active support of some foreign forces, were creating all such kinds of riots and violent situations in the country, added Laxmi Baba.

Laxmi Baba, while speaking on the threat on his life, stated that he had no enemy. So he did not see any danger and threat on his life. He was staying for last 25 years and even the Maoists had been staying in the hills for last 50 years, during which Maoists had never attacked him, stated Laxmi Baba.

Notably, the Gajapati police have informed Laxmi Baba about the threat from the Maoists citing the deployment of some CPI (Maoists) in the area. And round the clock security cover for Laxmi Baba is being provided by the police wherever he moves.

Speaking on Maoist leader Sabyasachi, Baba stated that he did not understand why the Maoist leader was involving him in the communal riots adding “Sabyasachi should lead a descent life in the mainstream society and should work for the welfare of the people".
