Bhubaneswar(Orissa): Amit Kumar Beura ,a brave boy of 15 years age from a non-descript village of Pinpur under Uttarkul Gram Panchayatof Nischintakoili Block under Cuttack District will receive the President's Bravery Award-2008 "Jiban Rakhyak' medal on the Republic Day for saving five girls from drowning.
A communication from the Union Home Department received by Amit's family stated that after understanding the valiant act of Amit, the selection committee nominated him for the award.
As per the report, on 3rd September, five village girls Subhashree Beura (18),Manasi Beura(21),Itishree Beura(16), Juli Samal (12), and Sarojini Beura(18) had gone to river Paika to take bath. But all of a sudden Manasi slipped into the deep water in the flow and when the other four tried to resque her, they too slipped one after another.
Hearing the screams of the girls Amit rushed to the spot and managed to rescue all these five girls. Later with the help of villagers they admitted in the hospital.
Earlier Amit has been awarded by the district administration as well as many Non- Governmental Organisations for his bravery act.
At the time of the incident Amit was a student and NCC cadet of Bapuji Smaraki Uchha Bidyapitha , Uttarkul and now He is a +2 student of Salipur college.
