Chilka,Tamapara to be eco-tourism destination

Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) : The Orissa Government has planned to develop Chilika and Tamapara as eco-tourism destination under the Integrated Coastal Management plan at a cost of Rs 15 crore, ourism Minister Debi Prasad Mishra told the Assembly.

Mishra said a sum of Rs 620.55 lakh has been allotted for undertaking development works at Satapada, Sipakuda, Rajahans and New Mouth under the Mega Tourism Circuit Scheme.

A proposal to develop eco tourism to create alternative livelihood at Barakul, Rambha, New Mouth, Sipakud, Satapada, Ghantasila and heliakuda island with World Bank assistance was under the active consideration of the government, he said.

The Minister said Pantha Niwas, a boating complex, a viewing gallery, a children's park were constructed at Satapada, Rambha and Barkul for the tourists.

Under the Chilika Destination Development Scheme, a conference hall, children's park, indoor games, landscaping, water sports complex, were made at Barakul and jetty, pathway and walkway were established at the Kalijai temple, he said.

He said a strict vigil was being maintained on the birds visiting the lake every year by setting up 27 camps.

Mishra said 165 types of fish crabs, prawns, snakes, snails were kept by the Chilika Development Authority at a museum at the Chandraput Research centre for the visiting tourists.
