Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday joined hands with Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra to fight against leftwing insurgency.
Patnaik, who attended a two-hour long high level meet on internal security chaired by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Raipur, said that his Government has taken several steps to keep away tribals from the leftwing ultras.
Patnaik also expressed satisfaction over Central support, particularly the Union Home Ministry for the upcoming massive operations. “The meeting was fruitful,” the Orissa Chief Minister said.
Besides, Patnaik, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil and senior security officials attended the meet.
The Union Home Minister however expressed declared that States had agreed to coordinate actions against Maoist guerrillas and that the government’s goal was to reassert authority in rebel bastions.
Several important issues were also discussed in the meeting.
Police sources said that they are also planning to extend the operation into new areas on the border of Chhattisgarh and Orissa.
The operations are currently going on in two areas — one on the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border and the other on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border.
Sources said the security forces had succeeded in mounting pressure on the Maoists on both sides of the inter-state border of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
“So, the meet seriously discussed and decided to work out a strategy to make efforts for area domination on the Orissa side too,” a senior cop said.
